Carolyn Appleby (Doris Singleton) finds herself with a handful of Harpo when she visits Lucy in Hollywood, in "Harpo Marx."

To true I Love Lucy fans, Doris Singleton will forever be Lucy Ricardo's nearsighted nemesis, "Carolyn Appleby." Ms. Singleton, who portrayed Lucy's friend "Iris Atterbury" at the 50th Anniversary Lucy Reunion, appeared regularly on the series throughout its run, playing an important part in such classic episodes as "Baby Pictures" (Episode #71),"Lucy Tells the Truth" (Episode #72),"Harpo Marx" (Episode #124),"The Dancing Star" (Episode #125, with Van Johnson). Her association with Lucille Ball began on radio in July of 1948, with the very first regularly scheduled episode of My Favorite Husband, and continued after I Love Lucy with roles on The Lucy Show and Here's Lucy, and appearances on Lucille Ball's Comedy Specials. Before plunging into radio acting, Ms. Singleton was a dancer in New York's Ballet Theatre Company for three seasons, and had her own singing show on WNEW, also playing theatres as a singer with Art Jarrett's big band. As an actress, she took part in such classic radio programs as Blondie, Bob Hope, Burns & Allen, Duffy's Tavern, Edgar Bergen & Charlie McCarthy, Fanny Brice, The Great Gildersleeve, Gunsmoke, The Jack Benny Program, Jimmy Durante, Lux Radio Theatre, My Little Margie, Orson Welles, Rudy Vallee, Suspense, and The Whistler. Ms. Singleton's many television appearances include The Alan Young Show, All in the Family, Angel, The Bob Cummings Show, Cannon, Days of Our Lives, The Dick Van Dyke Show, Dynasty, Family Affair, The Fugitive, Gomer Pyle, Hazel, Hogan's Heroes, Love American Style, Make Room for Daddy, My Friend Irma, My Three Sons, Our Miss Brooks, The People's Choice, Phyllis, Quincy, The Real McCoys, The FBI, Twilight Zone, Gunsmoke, Alfred Hitchcock Presents, and Marcus Welby, MD.
