Dwayne Hickman, who, as Dobie Gillis, became the hero and spokesman for an entire generation of Baby Boomers, co-starred in the 50th Anniversary Reunion performance of "Lucy's First Sitcom" as Lucy's radio husband, "George Cooper" -- a role originally played by Richard Denning. Dwayne had a brief role as a child in the Lucille Ball film comedy, Her Husband's Affairs. Among his many other films during this period, Hickman was featured in The Boy with Green Hair, Heaven Only Knows, and The Secret Heart. Then, during his sophomore year at Loyola University, Bob Cummings asked him to play the part of his nephew "Chuck" on The Bob Cummings Show. This began what would become a ten year stint for Hickman on network television. After five years of developing his comedic talent working with Cummings, he was awarded the title role in The Many Loves of Dobie Gillis. This classic series ran on CBS Television from 1959 to 1963, and has continued running in syndication ever since. After Dobie Gillis, Hickman resumed his film career, as well as guest starring on episodic television and performing on the stage. He starred in several films for American International Pictures, including How to Stuff a Wild Bikini (with Annette Funicello) and Ski Party (with Frankie Avalon). He also starred with Lee Marvin and Jane Fonda in the classic comedy-western, Cat Ballou. Hickman's theatrical career has encompassed such classic productions as Barefoot in the Park, Star Spangled Girl, and 6 Rms Riv Vu. In the 1970s Hickman joined CBS Television as a Program Executive, supervising the production of such shows as Dukes of Hazzard, M*A*S*H, Alice, WKRP in Cincinatti, and Designing Women. In 1987 he left CBS to produce and star in the reunion movie of the week, Bring Me the Head of Dobie Gillis, then turned his talents to directing half-hour comedies such as Designing Women. He returned to the big screen in 1998 in the Paramount feature film A Night at the Roxbury, produced by Amy Heckerling (Clueless) and Lorne Michaels (Saturday Night Live, Wayne's World).
